The Netherlands is richly endowed with stellar jazz guitarists. On May 11, three absolute toppers will be on the same stage: Martijn van Iterson, Reinier Baas and Richard Hallebeek. Three guitarists who all approach jazz in their own way, with one overarching characteristic: they are heroes on their instruments. The three guitarists will be accompanied this evening by, among others, bassist Clemens van de Veen.ticketshop
Martijn van Iterson
Martijn van Iterson is a scion of the Hilversum Conservatory where -just like other greats like Jesse van Ruller and Maarten van der Grinten- he graduated under the renowned Wim Overgauw. Iterson has played with untold jazz greats. In doing so, he unites a modern approach to jazz with a love of tradition.
Reinier Baas is also one of the collaborators. Baas often embraces experimentation. For example, he played in Benjamin Herman's punk band Bughouse, but also with renowned luminaries like Han Bennink. On his guitar, Baas is a master. Never shy of a quest and always open to something new.
The style of Richard Hallebeek this evening is still most in the direction of what you might call 'fusion'. In that corner of jazz Hallebeek is a giant. Gitarist magazine recently named him 'jazz guitarist of the year'. And that is actually not even a very big surprise. Hallebeek easily fits in the list of international 'heroes' like Allan Holdsworth, Scott Henderson or Frank Gambale.
Together, our Dutch 'heroes' Iterson, Baas and Hallebeek will provide a special evening in the Muziekgebouw.
