Improvisation, swing, blues sounds: jazz music makes you dream away to another world. What happens when you put not 1, not 2, but 3 jazz legends on one stage? That can only produce magic! We are proud to announce this exclusive Jazz Heroes Night. An evening where jazz legends Reinier Baas, Martijn van Iterson and Richard Hallebeek will be on stage together. All three of them are unique in their approach to jazz, but they have one thing in common: when their fingers touch their guitars, fireworks erupt. Oo and to top it all off, they play together with a great band. In short: you want to be there!ticketshop
Martijn van Iterson
Martijn van Iterson graduated cum laude from the Hilversum Conservatory 30 years ago, under the renowned Wim Overgauw. In the decades that followed, he played with many big names from the jazz world, including Jim Hall, Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Piet Noordijk, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Rita Reys. Martijn was also a member of groups such as D-Code, Picks Might Fly and All the King's Men. He is also a regular guitarist with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, and has released three albums under his own name. How best to describe Martijn's sound and qualities? "An unmistakable sound of a very sophisticated jazz musician".
Say European Jazz Scene, you say Reinier Baas. As a soloist, he has performed with the Metropole Orchestra, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. As a sideman, he has worked with Gregory Porter, Dave Douglas, Hans Teeuwen and Han Bennink. He was Artist In Residence at the 2017 Südtirol Jazz Festival, and in 2018 he received carte blanche from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, resulting in the premiere of String Quartet #1. He received composition commissions from the North Sea Jazz Festival, the November Music Festival and Pynarello. Add to that a prestigious Edison for his album Mostly Improvised Instrumental Indie Music (2017) and one for the album Reinier Baas vs. Princess Discombobulatrix (2017): do we need to say more?
Voted #1 'Fusion Guitarist' of the Netherlands by Gitarist Magazine for the 7th(!) time in a row: you simply cannot ignore Richard Hallebeek and his fantastic playing. Hallebeek easily fits in the list of international 'heroes' like Allan Holdsworth, Scott Henderson or Frank Gambale. The list of who Richard has played with is therefore endless: Shawn Lane, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Brett Garsed, Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan, Derek Sherinian, Gary Husband, Jimmy Johnson, Steve Hunt, Randy Brecker, Carl Verheyen, Andy Timmons, Eric Gales, Kiko Loureiro, Allan Holdsworth... and the list continues. Fun fact: Hallebeek was the youngest student ever taken on by the Hilversum Conservatory. That says a lot about his special qualities, which you will discover during Heroes Night on Thursday, May 11.
On Thursday, May 11, our heroes will be on stage together with a fantastic band. This unique concert is a must see and must hear for everyone who loves jazz.
