Blazing riffs and hypnotic melodic fragments: a guitar is what you listen to. But not only that: you also talk about it. About the instrument, its effects, the amps, the music you make with it and the passion a guitar evokes. During Guitar Inside -the talk show where we talk about the guitar- host Eefke Boelhouwers and regular guest Niels Guns chat with various well-known guests.

#1 Reinier Baas & Bas van Holt

During the first episode of Guitar Inside during BRIDGE Festival, we welcome two fantastic musicians right away. Namely, Reinier Baas is an exceptional guitarist. He embraces experimentation and fans out across different styles. For example, he played in Benjamin Herman's punk band Bughouse, but also with renowned luminaries such as Han Bennink. On his guitar, Baas is a master. Never shy of a quest and always open to something new.

Next to Reinier, Bas van Holt takes a seat on the bench of Guitar Inside. Bas is guitarist and singer of Dawn Brothers with whom he plays on Friday night in the Effenaar during BRIDGE Festival. With that band he plays soul and R&B like it's the sixties. During Guitar Inside he will be asked about his love for soul and R&B.

#2 Michiel Stekelenburg & Ruard Sanders

Guitarist and composer Michiel Stekelenburg is no stranger to the Dutch modern jazz scene. Trade magazine Gitarist compliments him by writing about "Listening, thoughtfully conceived pieces that are pleasant to the ear and would not be out of place on an album by Michael Brecker.

Sitting next to him this afternoon is Ruard Sanders, star guitarist in Voltage (like Michiel to be seen and heard on the BRIDGE Festival program) who in turn studied at the conservatory in Rotterdam. In recent years, Ruard has focused on the search for the roots of the guitar in the USA. Thus he came from jazz, blues and slide guitar from the 1930s through the 1950s.

#3 Gwenifer Raymond & Erja Lyytinen

For the third installment of Guitar Inside at BRIDGE Festival, two amazing female guitarists join us this afternoon: Gwenifer Rymond from Wales and Finland's Erja Lyytinen.

Give a guitar to any musician and chances are something completely different will roll out every time, as these two extraordinary guitarists prove. For example, Gwenifer Raymond has mastered the clawhammer technique. A way of playing - indeed with one hand bent like a claw - that has its origins in playing the banjo.

Blues rock is the style to which her musical quest took Erja Lyytinen. Queen of the slide guitar, she is also called. Why? I'm sure she will show and hear that during this episode.

#4 Paulus Schäfer en Robin Scherpen

You can also go in many directions with an acoustic guitar, as we discuss with Paulus Schäfer and Robin Scherpen on this latest episode of Guitar Inside during BRIDGE Festival. For Paulus Schäfer, Django Reinhardt is his great example. Meanwhile, Schäfer himself is also a major figure in gypsy jazz. Flying, swinging and full of soul is how the Gerwen-born guitarist's playing can be described.

Robin Scherpen is also a phenomenon, but on the classical guitar. During an experimental corneal transplant he spent seven weeks in the dark. Where this might be a frightening setting for some, Scherpen actually drew inspiration from the darkness. A process he will shine his light on this afternoon.

THIS IS GUITAR INSIDE

Nattering, we might better call it. In a living room setting, not only presenter Eefke Boelhouwers (Harvest Music, and for many years working for Omroep Brabant), regular sidekick Niels Guns (journalist; guitar enthusiast) and you, the audience, will join in, but also various interesting guests. Guests who initially seem different: young versus old, metal versus jazz, man versus woman, but all have one thing in common: their love for music and especially the guitar.

Expect chatty anecdotes, hilarious memories and special events from our guests: nothing goes unsaid during Guitar Inside. Each guest brings along an object: their very first guitar, their biggest bad buy, that frumpy pedal they can't live without or a photo of a legendary performance. An iconic object you won't soon forget -after their story.

We make Guitar Inside for an audience as diverse as our guests: young and old, female and male, into indie and into classical. For guitarists and non-guitarists. It doesn't matter. Listeners have one commonality: they just find the guitar and especially music
