Jimmy Diamond plays Americana indie rock with an edge. The sound of their music seems to have been born in the seventies. But it has an urgency and eloquence of today. It sounds like a thrilling meeting between Tom Petty and Kurt Vile. What we’re trying to say is that Jimmy Diamond makes rock-solid songs that always remain deliciously quirky.
The members of this trio are the European left and right hands of Tim Showalter's Strand of Oaks. In that capacity, they have already played on many major stages in Europe. While Jimmy Diamond stands on it’s own feet, similar DNA flows through their musical bloodstreams. Singer/guitarist Jim Zwinselman also plays in Bökkers and Boogie Monster. Besides that he is a producer, studio musician and guitar teacher who is an ace at the pedal steel guitar. He’s a gifted musician with a guitar sound you might envy. His guitar parts are the supporting force in Jimmy Diamond's songs. His playing is sometimes raw, sometimes refined and always in the service of the song. If you like Jim James, Ray LaMontagne, Richard Swift, you won’t regret seeing a Jimmy Diamond show

The tone, the feeling, the technique: Leif de Leeuw has the full package in his fingers. Straight from his toes, through his heart he pulls stunning solos from his instrument. Notes that scream, shriek or whisper if they have to. Not without good reason the sympathetic guitarist was voted best (blues)rock guitarist of the Netherlands six times in a row. Leif de Leeuw counts David Gilmour, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck and Derek Trucks among his own guitar heroes. From all these kinds of master guitarists, De Leeuw picked some grains and molded his unmistakable own style.
The Leif de Leeuw Band is not only about solos though, but also very much about catchy songs. With his eponymous band, Leif de Leeuw has gathered around him a group of musicians who make exciting southern rock, blues and Americana in the tradition of the Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Gov't Mule. Two drummers whip things up and the Hammond organ adds even more fire to the already blazing set.

The blues rock world is still dominated by men. Finland's Erja Lyytinen proves that this hegemony may well be over. In her autobiography Blueskuningatar (or Blues Queen), the queen of slide guitar describes how she shaped her musical career through hard work. Bonnie Raitt has been a great example for the Finnish guitarist. And she previously toured with Jennifer Batten, that other highly influential female guitar hero.
But enough about gender: Erja Lyytinen has developed her own unique style. You might call it power slide blues rock. Her twelfth album Waiting For The Daylight, which saw the light of day in the fall of 2022, proves that her playing is still evolving. Just listen, for example, to the super tricky solo in Bad Seed in which she is indebted to Eric Johnson. On stage, this Finnish is an appearance that holds your attention the entire show. During a live show this blues queen is truly at her best.

Steve Vai's concert is sold out. There are still free tickets available for the Q&A in the Effenaar. Click here for more info.
Sacramento, California, 1997: during a conversation in a hotel room Steve Vai and his friend and Dutch music producer Co de Kloet decided to dive into an orchestral adventure. At that time Vai was already a world-famous guitar phenomenon. But the "composer Vai" was still unknown to many. Yet the orchestral abilities of the master guitarist are also a league of their own. In the tradition of his great teacher Frank Zappa, Steve Vai writes wonderful and adventurous compositions that are not limited by a specific genre, but are inspired by a great wealth of influences.
The initial conversation between Vai and Co de Kloet eventually resulted in a collaboration between Steve and the Metropole Orkest and conductor Dick Bakker in 2005. Later he also worked with the NNO (North Netherlands Orchestra). Steve's orchestral compositions are recognizable by a unique melodic and harmonic vocabulary.
The Netherlands can count itself lucky once again: Vai continues his orchestral adventure in the Low Countries during a unique, one-off show with the Metropole Orkest. The repertoire that he will be performing this evening under the direction of the Finnish conductor Jukka Iisakkila contains both previously released material and previews of newly recorded pieces. These new pieces are part of a major project with the working title 'The Big O': studio recordings of a huge amount of orchestral music by Vai. In May and August 2022 he entered the studio with the Metropole Orkest and the Finnish Tampere Filharmonia. The post-production of those recordings is in full swing. Due to the large amount of music, a definitive release date has not yet been announced.
What we do already know is that Steve Vai literally bridges the gap between his work as a trailblazing guitarist and remarkable composer at the Bridge festival. A unique show by an excellent orchestra and an exceptional guitarist and composer who, even after a career of more than forty years, still pushes the limits of his abilities and goes beyond them.

We like surprises. And Makas certainly surprises us. They fuse Turkish (Anatolian) folk music with progressive and psychedelic rock. Altin Gün already proved that this fusion can lead to some tasty sounds. Makas operates in the line of Altin Gün and dare to take their musical exploration a few steps further. Murat's guitar parts are the elixir in this surprising combination of styles. The nice thing about such a rich sea of influences, is that the way you experience Makas' music is constantly changing. One moment you are confronted with a cutting guitar solo, the next moment you are dancing indomitably, a few seconds later you are treated to an adventurous leitmotiv or riff that would have been the envy of seventies rock greats. Scissors, is the translation from Turkish of the word Makas. "There is always the possibility to cut loose everything that pulls you down and holds you back," the band itself says about choosing that band name. It's a metaphor that can also be perfectly applied to experiencing a concert by this five-piece. "

If there is one musician who in recent decades has been highly important for guitar music from Eindhoven, it is Peter van Elderen. First of all, of course, because of his renowned power trio Peter Pan Speedrock. Now he’s raising the bar with Tankzilla, an alliance between Van Elderen and drummer Marcin Hurkmans. A monstrosity of a band. And we mean that as a huge compliment.
Sure, the music of the power duo Tankzilla is heavy. 'Satan fucked a Panzer and the offshoot is TankZilla,' they summed it up in words themselves. Even more than with PPSR, Tankzilla's music leans on the powerful, compelling riffs of Van Elderen, who in 2005 was awarded best guitarist in the Netherlands.
His Gibson Les Paul and his Marschall JCM 800 with DAF logo saw just about every corner of the Netherlands and Europe. It's a miracle that his gear still works despite all the thousands of miles on the road. All those thousands of shows have provided a nice layer of patina over Peter's characterful heavy sound. We super excited that this victory tour will continue, thanks in part to Tankzilla.

It shows the creative power of a true artist if he doesn't let setbacks stop him, but even turns obstacles into advantages. Dutch classical guitarist and composer Robin Scherpen spent seven weeks in the dark during an experimental corneal transplant. While this might be a frightening setting for some, Scherpen drew inspiration from the darkness and turned it into beauty. He composed his debut album For the Unseen completely in the dark. A circumstance that threw him back entirely on his intuition. “My bad eyesight taught me how essential it is to feel complete freedom when you're in a creative process,” says the guitarist himself. Scherpen really experienced that freedom when he noticed that the most pure music came to him at unconscious moments.
Scherpen is inspired by modern composers such as Ólafur Arnalds, Yann Tiersen and Nils Frahm. His sparkling playing gives the classical instrument a fresh energy. Robin Scherpen makes music to which you can, may, must surrender. His show during the Bridge festival, under the name Sound & Silence, is a lying down-concert which will undoubtedly provide a special listening experience. With Robin Scherpen it is not about what you see, but about what you hear.
