DUO GATTA-POULIOS
On Thursday afternoon, May 30th, the second day of the BRIDGE Guitar Festival, two classical guitarists, studying with Carlo Marchione at Conservatorium Maastricht, will play enchanting music during the lunchtime concert. In their young and ambitious collaboration, Edoardo Gatta (Italy) and Vassilis Poulios (Greece) will bridge the gap from the works of great composers of the past like Schubert to modern guitar pieces written for solo and duo.
Edoardo Gatta is a young Italian classical guitarist who combines tradition with innovation in his music. He brings classical and modern works to life while simultaneously creating new guitar music in collaboration with emerging composers. This is a perspective also shared by Vassilis Poulios, who likes to emphasize Beethoven's assertion that “a guitar is a miniature orchestra in itself”, by performing repertoire that showcases the instrument’s multi-faceted nature.
Gatta and Poulios are two highly committed musicians active in the fields of performance and pedagogy. On top of their concert career in solo and chamber music ensembles, they share a passion for teaching which comes together in their volunteer work at Refugee Project Maastricht, where they give guitar lessons to asylum seekers from all over the world.
Whether you are a seasoned listener of classical (guitar) music or wish to become more acquainted with the captivating sounds that these wonderful virtuoso musicians can produce with their instruments, this lunchtime concert is a perfect opportunity.
Please note: this concert takes place around lunchtime, but no lunch will be served.
