LAURA LOOTENS
It is called the smallest orchestra in the world. The guitar! Because what a variety of sounds this modest instrument manages to produce. It lends a voice to every atmosphere. On Sunday, June 2, we start with music from Spain, a country that shaped the guitar like no other. Spirit, passion, melancholy melodies through Albeniz and Rodrigo, known from the famous Concierto d'Aranjuez. Then we cross to Italy. The guitar optimally conveys the Italian 'bel canto' (literally: beautiful singing).
And so two southern worlds meet. Laura Lootens, meanwhile, comes from fairly close: her background is German-Belgian. This year, the only 23-year-old guitarist won one of the most important guitar competitions in the world, the Andrés-Segovia-Competition. She won the first prize but also won the special prize for best performance of the compulsory work. 'An extraordinary talent. She plays with such passion and fire that she elicits standing ovations from the audience,' Volksstimme wrote about her. Laura herself: 'Music is so colorful, so versatile, powerful and at the same time so fragile. My passion is to bring the music to life. Nothing reflects my feelings, ideas and fantasies like making music.”
