COCOBOLO
Cocobolo sounds like the more candid variant of Khruangbin, with fine surf influences and delightful guitar parts. You could also rightfully mention Orions Belte, Jungle by Night, and BADBADNOTGOOD in the same breath as this trio. But, as it goes with references, comparing them to those other bands is quite limiting. Because Cocobolo is more than that. They create a mix of old-school funk, psychedelic rock guitars, and surf guitars with a retro sound. The Amsterdam trio approaches music like a painter lured by a blank canvas. Or call it a director summoned by an empty film reel (or, okay, an SD card with endless storage, if you will). Each song from this trio starts with an image as a starting point. From that one image, it can go in any direction. "Imagine being chased in a spy movie, or walking through the forest at dusk. Through a multitude of backgrounds, all songs have one thing in common: they stimulate the imagination," they describe the adventure themselves. You can experience that adventure yourself tonight during BRIDGE AROUND TOWN at M!
