CLOUD CAFE
Some terms used to describe music don't quite capture the essence. In the case of Cloud Cafe, the description "grungefolk" does indeed get you quite a bit in the right direction. The quartet around guitarist/vocalist Tara Wilts creates melancholic songs with a raw edge. The band's songs—signed by Excelsior Recordings, quite a quality stamp—resemble those of Mazzy Star and Big Thief. Additionally, Wilts draws inspiration from artists like Neil Young, Laura Marling, and Molly Drake (yes, Nick's mother). "Tender and dreamy songs that fill the room and make it sway along," wrote 3voor12 in a review of their show at Paradiso. During BRIDGE AROUND TOWN, they'll fill M with their delicious "musical microcosm of everyday chaos and melancholy."
