BOMBINO
Omara 'Bombino' Moctar is a phenomenon. The guitarist hailing from Niger is a man with a story. In his home country, he is a genuine cult hero among the Tuareg youth, adept at capturing the sound of the African desert with his cutting guitar melodies. At the age of twelve, Bombino's family had to flee to Tamanrasset in Algeria to escape impending rebel violence. It was also the year he received his first guitar, despite a strict prohibition against playing it. Perhaps that's why Bombino became such a skilled, determined, and independent musician.
The sounds he extracts from his instrument sometimes resemble Jimi Hendrix or even evoke hints of Frank Zappa. Yet mostly, it's entirely his own style. The crossover between blues, rock, and traditional Tuareg music is genuinely unique. It's an enchanting blend that also invites vigorous dancing. In the past, Bombino collaborated with renowned producers like Dan Auerbach (the guitarist of The Black Keys), which stands as one of the many proofs of his ability to bridge a remarkable crossover between styles. If you're seeking something beautiful to discover during Bridge 2024, Bombino's show is an absolute recommendation.
